Nick Denton’s 2009 Plan For Internet Media
A pretty well reasoned argument for the Gawker layoffs earlier this year. However, I can’t help but dwell on his admission in the third paragraph that he may have ulterior motives in such prognostications.

And Gawker Media’s trademark bearishness in 2006 or earlier this year has sometimes been dismissed as gamesmanship: an attempt to unsettle actual and potential competitors. My motives are indeed not entirely pure.
Isn’t it possible that this is some sort of reverse gamemenship - scare the smaller publishers into battening down the hatches while Denton gets to increase his own share of the Gawker Media revenue? Color me overly pessimistic as well, but just a thought…
